VETERANS
MEMORIAL WALL
THREE
Thank you for the sacrifices you made to keep us free. God bless all veterans past and present who were willing to fight for freedom and justice. It is you that have made the United States the greatest nation on Earth.
Best wishes,
Terri

Words cannot express how very proud I am of my Dad (William F. Berry) who sacrificed his life by serving in the U.S. Army on the battle field in the South Pacific during World War II. He undoubtedly was very brave and strong and I will always admire him for the many sacrifices he made for our country.
Also, I am also very grateful to my brother (Franklin) who also served in the U.S. Army in the Viet Nam conflict in 1971.
I am very thankful that the Lord returned both of them safely home to their loved ones. You two guys are definitely my heroes and I thank you for your courage, valor, and sacrifice in serving our country that we may continue to enjoy the many freedoms we enjoy today.
May God bless both of you!!
Love,

MAY THE MILITARY PERSONNEL WHO SERVED OUR COUNTRY SO BRAVELY AND GAVE THEIR LIVES SO THAT WE MAY LIVE IN FREEDOM NEVER BE FORGOTTEN. WE OWE THEM OUR DEEPEST RESPECT AND HONOR. I WOULD LIKE TO GO AND STAND BY THE VETERAN'S MEMORIAL WALL SOMEDAY AND PAY MY RESPECTS. THEY MAKE ME PROUD TO BE A CITIZEN OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, THE GREATEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD! GOD CONTINUE TO BE WITH THEM ALL.

As I stood before the wall ... It was a most emotional trip for my husband and me since our son William M. Irwin served in that war and came home safe to us. I thought of the families whose loved ones' names are on that wall, I knew their fears, shared their sorrow.
I saw soldiers in uniform clinging together, crying for their fallen comrades. I thought of the young man I had worked with who lost his life there. A loved one is forever immortalized with his name engraved on that dark stone wall, his last reward for the ultimate sacrifice for his country. We wept for their loss. We also wept for those who survived, who knew rejection upon their home coming.
Yet we know long after those who were scornful are gone from this earth the survivors of the "Viet Nam War" will also be listed in those written tablets of time. We thank them also for their sacrifices made for their country.
This Memorial Day, I hope my poem touches the hearts of all the veterans as they have touched mine. Our country and its citizens owe you much, especially our heartfelt thanks for your service, your sacrifices, "God Bless You All."
Sincerely,
Geneva Irwin

Dad, I'm glad you are here and not on that wall. For his friends and fellows that are, I pray for them and their families.

Today I give thanks that my son, a Marine Corp veteran, came home safely from the Viet Nam war and has a fine family. His dad, my husband for 58 years, was also a Marine Corp veteran, serving over four years in WW 11, and we raised a fine family. He died in March, 2003, and my heart still aches for him, but he has joined some of his comrads and is at peace.

When God created the soldier HE made them stand tall, tough hands, broad shoulders, strong legs and feet.
The Angels asked God, Why have you made the soldier so high up, they won't be able to shoot marbles or play tea party with their kids without stooping or bending to kiss a child.
And God said, I made them that way so the children would have someone to look up to.
The Angels asked God, What about the soldiers hands, they will be tough and clumsy, the couldn't manage small buttons, rubber bands on pony tails or even remove splinters.
And God said, I know - but they are tough enough to hold all the stuff from a little boys pockets and reel in a fish, and yet gentle enough to cup a child's face.
And the Angels asked God, what about the shoulders so broad and bold.
And God said, they are big enough to carry the weight of the world and yet the smallest of worries a child could have.
And the Angels said, God Do you realize you made a soldier without a lap?
God smiled and said, The child will have a lap be it Moms or be it Dads, You see the soldiers here in my army as well as the one on earth has both Mommys and Daddys.
God worked through the night giving the soldier few words, a firm voice, eyes that see everything, a strong but tender heart and then he added tears, Just to show the world - a Soldier is a Son, a Daughter, a Father, a Mother, a Sister or even a Brother. But no matter who they are . . . "THEY" shall not be forgotten.
May Gods Blessing be with each and every American soldier. Thank You for Your Love of Our Country and Our Protection.

Serenity Secured
A train whistle`s lonely call in the distance
In the dark a whip-poor-will`s insistance
Big wheels singing way over on the highway
The bells calling the ending of another day
Last drops of rain sliding off the trees
These sounds are all soothing to me
They speak to me of the safety of home
The canopy of night`s overhead like a dome
For those who fought and died for this security
I would like to say these grateful words from me
Without your sacrefices we would not be free
The sounds of the night would not peaceful be
I can sit here in the dark with no fear you see
Because glorious soldiers you secured it for me
Words cannot tell how grateful I am for your part
Just feel and know the true thanksgiving of my heart

Welcome Home, Brothers and Sisters! Thank God, I came home with all my body parts intact from VietNam, but many of you didn't. Thank you for your sacrifices. Let's all stand proud!
Roger H.

To just say Thank You somehow doesn't seem enough. When so many men and women have given everything to make sure that we have the freedoms we enjoy and then come "home" to people to show no appreciation for all they've lost is unthinkable. But for the past thirty years its been that way; at least the ones who receive most of the press make it seem that way. I just want to assure all of you that NOT everyone feels such disrespect and distain for what you have done. I know that I am not alone when I say that I pray for all of you everyday and will continue to do so.
God Bless each and everyone of you.

There are 2 other names on the wall of John Phillips and Donald Ray Lambert. They were friends also and They have not or will they ever be forgotten by me.
I was drafted in 1969 and enlisted in the Navy. Retired in 1991.
Thank you!

I remember how sad I was at the way the Vietnam military personnel were treated when they returned home from the war. It just broke my heart and I was so ashamed of those people who acted so disgracefully toward them.
I would like to take this opportunity to say I appreciate what you did for our country. God Bless Each and Every One of You.

I have two brothers who served during the Viet Nam era, Jake served in Nam and Kenny served in Korea. By the grace of God both came home! We pray still for the families of those who did not make it home and are so very proud of all of those who risked their lives to keep our country free.

To all of the veterans that went to Viet Nam. I am married to a man that served in Viet Nam in 69-70 and as far as I am concerned all of our troopers are heros that served in that war. We also have heros from this war we just had. To me anyone that serves in the military and fights for our country to have peace is a hero. Thank you all for being such brave soldiers and always remember that God is on our side and he will protect us from harm.
Debbie Battiest

To all whose name appears, we remember you in prayer. Especially to our Beloved "Carl", our hearts ache and we wish we had a gravesite to visit. But every day since that day we learned you had given the ultimate we have flown the American Flag for you, and for all the names on that Wall with yours, and for those who served and made it home to be belittled, and cursed. You All served your country and your God. The people of this country should all stand at the mention of your names.
We were able to visit The Wall, to touch your name, Carl, to cry and to leave a flower. And we thought of so many as we ran our hands over other names inscribed there. One who served in Viet Nam saw the pain and came over and held your uncle (and Godfather) in his arms and we all sobbed.
As your uncle served our country for 13 years, we are proud of the military of the USA. You died that others might live. For those who returned to the ugliness of many, we salute you and say today "You are the best of the best". You are Americans, and we thank God for you and every person who has served in the Armed forces of the USA.
God bless you and thank you.

God Bless all those who fought in the Viet Nam war.
What if God asked us to give a life for all the negative remarks about our Servicemen who were in the Viet Nam war? I am sure the total loss of lives would be far greater than the loss of lives in Viet Nam.
Again God Bless our Armed Forces. May God be with all of them.

I want to thank all of the men and women who served in Vietnam. My father was one of those very special people. He was one of the lucky ones who came home alive--he received a purple heart but at least he came home. I am sorry for the families who lost their loved ones. My prayers go out to the families of the ones who are gone and also to the ones who came home. These men have had a lot of things to deal with since coming home. God bless.

Thanks to the fine men and women serving in our armed forces, we are able to sleep a little easier. Think how people in foreign lands must feel--when they don't have this kind of patriotism. We have had and I hope will continue to have a fine group of folks protecting us.

In the spirit of this Great County, our young men and women have given their all, service, sacrifice and courage to face the unknown. The military has shown that they can face any odds, and brave any uncertainty. We, AMERICA, owe YOU a great deal of honor and glory for what you have done for us out of your loyalty and bravery that you have shown in this war.
Like all wars, previous, men and women die leaving those that love them the most behind. God Bless the families left behind and God Bless all of you who have come home with your heads held high.
THANK YOU ALL, Air Force, Army, Marines and Navy for all of your sacrifices and defense of you Great Country, the USA and all she stands for.

My husband who has now left this earth, enlisted at an early age and served in the Marines for over four years. He passed on his bravery and strength of will to our son who, at the age of 18, enlisted in the Marine Corps and served for over four years. The strength and character they achieved through those tough years kept them able to accept the challenges that life brings.
As a wife and a mother, I proudly write this piece.

I want to thank my Dad and thank God for bringing him back to us. My Dad has been gone now for quite a while, but his spirit lives on in my son. He was just fighting the war in Iraq with other brave men and women in the Armed Forces and my Dad was looking over him, because my son came back too to be with his wife and children. I would like to thank all the other vets who served and for the ones who did not make it back I can only imagine what their families went through and my thoughts go out to them.
Thanks Dad, we love you and miss you and take care of mom too.

Our son is in Tikrit Iraq and we pray and wait for his safe return. He was also in Somalia.
We are so proud of him and for the men who sacrifice so much for all of us to be free.
We are forever grateful.

Words cannot express the pride I have for the past, present, living, dead, of our military. The debt I owe I won't ever be able to repay, except with a simple "Thank You" for keeping me and mine safe.
A very dear male friend of mine (Marine) just came back from Iraq, he was shot 3 times and stabbed once, being on the front line. But thanks to higher powers he is doing well and recouperating nicely.
You ALL are the best and the pride of the US..stand tall and be proud of what you do!

Hi Big Brother
Just wanted to let you know I still think of you every day & still miss your sweet smile. I know it's been almost 34 years but sometimes it's like yesterday.

I am a Vietnam vet. I was with the 86th engs in 68 and 69. I left a lot of buddies but never forgot them. I thank GOD for all of them. After 30 years I still dream of them.
GOD BLESS those who gave all and those who do this now.
James Berry

I served two tours in vietnam 66-67 with the 1st Bn 2nd Infantry, 1st Infantry Division. My area of operation was in the 3rd Corps area around the Tay Ninh Province and the Michelon Rubber Plantation and Phuoc Vinh. My second tour was Jul to Dec 68 with the 1st of the 11th Infantry of the 5th Infantry Division in I corps on the DMZ at Con Thien . During both tours we saw heavy action, and took severe casualties in KIA and WIA, some were not wounded at all until much later (5-10-15-even 20 or 30 years later). When they and their families finally realized that their anger and depression was not normal, this was not how they were before they went to Vitnam, and for years after Vietnam they did a fairly good job of hiding their feelings and their anger and frustration were blamed on liquor or drugs, or just plain bad luck.
Their old friends were not their friends anymore, they could not relate to their old school friends, and some of them were not around anymore, they lost their lives in Vietnam or shortly after because of alcoholism or drugs and the ensuing wrecks of their cars and their lives.
Some lost their families who just could not cope with them, and or they could not cope with their families, and the problems that accompanies a family.
They who had wanted out of Vietnam so bad, even volunteered to go back, trying to find their lost buddies or comraderie that they missed so much, because they could depend on their brothers, someone always had your back, and you had theirs.
Some finally found some relief by trying to fight back when they realised that this was not them, they were never like this before Vietnam, why are we like this now, they began to fight back, and demanded some answers, like what the hell is wrong with me? And what are you going to do to help me thru this, I need your help, I need my families help.
Slowly we fight our way out of this dungeon, this hole that we have sunk into over the last 35 years, 35 years of anger and frustration, this unknown rage that cannot be fathomed, where does it come from, but more so, How do I get rid of it.
Hopefully your family sticks with you, and suffers with you, and cheers at every little success you may have, they come so hard, but damn they feel so good. You finally start looking for your Brothers from the NAM, where have they gone, where did they say they lived - Oklahoma? California? Kentucky?, there were so many and from so many different places, just trying to put them both together, you finally remember something that had been said.
This is an example: I had told my best Friend and Brother in Vietnam, that if he ever wanted to find me after the War, all he had to do was go to any liquor store and buy a bottle of Seagrams 7 and see where it was bottled at (Lawrenceburg, Ind.) I got home in Dec of 68, in May of 69 he called me up, we have been in touch since that time.
M.B. Johnson

I AM SO SORRY FOR THE LOVED ONES THAT LOST THEIR CHILDREN IN THE WARS. I HAVE CHILDREN OF MY OWN. IT HAS TO BE ONE OF THE WORST THINGS THAT COULD HAPPEN.
THANKS TO ALL OF YOU MEN & WOMEN THAT HAVE DEFENDED OUR COUNTRY. THERE IS NO WAY WE COULD EVER THANK YOU ENOUGH.
I HAVE A SON IN THE AIR FORCE. HE HAD TO GO OVERSEAS, BUT NOT ON THE FRONT-LINE. WE LOVE EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU .
LOVE FROM
THE JARRELL FAMILY - HEFLIN, ALABAMA
