VETERANS
MEMORIAL WALL
ONE

Words cannot express what's in my heart when I think of all you gave and although we've never met, you have my love and my blessings.
Joy

We are thankful for all the men and women that fought to keep this a free country and the best it is meant to be. They will never be forgotten. Just pray that the veterans are recognized more by the government than they are now. They deserve more than they are getting.
Chris

May the courage of those who have served....and the sacrifice of those who have died....serving our country..... never be forgotten. May they always remain in our memories as we go about our daily lives. Without them it would not be possible.
Bob (Navair)

In my heart I thank each and every one of you who has served and fought for our country and our freedom. When I go by the national cemetary where I live, I get tears in my eyes and I say a little prayer of thanks for giving their lives so I and all of us may live in a free world. And I want to thank the ones who are still serving our country for our freedom. God bless each and everyone and may God keep you in His care.
Linda

Thank you all, for serving in our Military. It is thru you that today, I can enjoy freedom, and enjoy all that life has to offer. It is thru the Military, that today, we have freedom. Ohh, we owe so much to all of you and I just want to say, "Thank You" and my thoughts and my prayers are indeed with you.
Norma Stevens

So much hatred and unrest were tolerated by you. You came home and people spat on you and called you all sorts of names. Now you are getting the recognition you deserve. I just wish with all my heart that The Wall had far fewer names. Thank you one and all, living and dead, for heeding your country's call and securing our freedom.
Lady Oh

To All who fought and those who gave their lives in VietNam.... I thank you.... Because of each one of you... we have remained free in a country we love... and I personally believe that each one of you have a very special spot reserved for you in Heaven... THANK YOU... from the bottom of my heart .....God Bless!
Donna

I thank God for the people who have fought and died to keep this country free. My family has had it's own contributions, my father, my husband, my brother and others. This is a wonderful memorial to all of them.
Wendy

Thanks to all those that served in the military, and those that served in combat zones. Our veterans have been our source of freedom, and have "given more, then the protected will ever know". Our veterans administration should take note to this. I'm a former airborne trooper, and I get the monthly publication of "Static-Line". Its "appalling, how this country can turn away any veteran that served on active duty for the U.S. of A". Each and everyone should be afforded health care and treatment by this "top-rich" country of which they have protected!
Tim Roop

To ALL the Men and Women who fought and died to preserve the future. Thank you for your efforts and sacrifices. You shall always remain an integral part of our lives. Let Freedom Reign Supreme. May God Bless You One And ALL.
V.E.H. & T.A.B.S.

Some of us didn't know enough to care 30 years ago. Some of us can only tell you we care now, and are honored to make the acquaintance of any Veteran.
Sincerely,
Monica Armstrong-Snow

Thank you to all the people who fought for the freedom we are privileged to experience in our country today. God bless each veteran, each man or woman who died for us, and each family of those who gave their life in the line of duty. Thank you for the freedom we cherish today.
Lexi

I have so much respect for the brave men and women who have fought in all the wars in order to allow us to live in freedom. It is important to never forget and pass this message on to the next generations, so they too, know the sacrifices that were made. My Grandfather and Father fought in World War 1 and 2, I lost my Grandfather long before I was born due to his being gassed, he died at 38 yrs old. My Father died at the young age of 53yrs. from effects of the 2nd world war. We should all remember everyday and be thankful that we live in peace.
Sincerely
Camomile

This makes you stop and remember friends in the service. Some who went to Viet Nam but not knowing if they returned or not. They all served their country well. Knowing some who returned and weren't the same after what they saw. May they all be blessed.
E.E.S

Had I been born in the 60's rather than the 50's I think I would have proudly tried to follow in the footsteps of my grandfather, my father and now my own son. It would have been an honor to serve this country for all it has given to me and my family. I love listening to my father's tales of the South Pacific and World War II. He proudly served on the USS San Juan and I am hoping to attend their reunion in Chicago this September to personally thank the surviving crew who so bravely fought from Guadalcanal to Tokyo. The perils, the hardships, the losses, the battles, the everyday heros should never be forgotten, never taken for granted. We can never thank a veteran enough, we can never honor them enough, we can never ever forget them. Please attend your local ceremonies this Memorial day and honor those who fought and died that you remain free. No stone ediface, no bronzed memorial will mean as much to them as your presence......and teach your children by your example. Show them the importance of showing up, hand over heart .....Memorial Day is not your backyard barbeque, day at the lake or fun at the parade.....it is standing at attention and saluting the flag we should all honor at the ceremonies where the wreaths are laid. Attend your local ceremony, thank a veteran in person and give your child the gift of patriotism. It will make him or her and our country stronger.

Please let me hear the quiet
I hope you understand
Silence is truly golden
Like the touch of a lovers hand

So many days and nights I cried
"Will I ever again,
share the silent moonlight?"
"Am I still her man?"

Please let me finish my dream
I had many sleepless nights
The bombs were falling way too near
Yes, some dreams are filled with fright

But if I awaken way too soon
Perhaps I never will know
If I am meant to have wonderful dreams
Or only the ones war has sown

You see at 7 I dreamed
I would grow into a soldier
Tall and strong
With a rifle on my shoulder

At 17 I dreamed
I would a hero be
Fight for country and honor
For you to all be free

18 brought another dream
To come home alive and well
And relay the stories to families
Their children can now never tell

Now I pray for the chance to dream
Not lay awake with sweat and fear
Just take me away to a blissful place
Where the only noise maybe a cheer

For those of us who made it
And those that lost their life
You can help make a dream come true
Keep our memory alive.

Saying "Thank You" to all the HEROS who fought for all of us to live in a free country, never seems to be enough! They gave up everything to protect us and their country, many loosing their lives. It is hard to imagine all the pain and suffering they endured and the horrible memories that will stay with them forever. To all of them I say "God Bless and Thank You" from the bottom of my heart.
~Ginny

To all of my fellow Americans who served in the Vietnam War, we would like to thank you. If not for dedicated patriots such as yourself this country will still fall under a king and we would never be free. Again thank you for your patriotism and your dedication to the future of freedom
Airy and Mike Tantillo

Thank you all for being here tonight, this night and every other night, as without you all and your wonderful service to our nation, we would not be what we are today, America Land of the Free.
Suzanne

NEVER NEVER FORGET.
Bill Culhane (IRISH GODFATHER)

We live in a society where we have been conditioned to believe in the "American Dream". Every single person, man, woman, or child, regardless of race, color, religion, gender, sexual preference/orientation, deserves the right to live their Dream, as long as we all understand that there are some basic human rights that must be respected.

We have come far, but yet we have so far to go. Each time that anyone stands up for what they believe in, each time that a soldier fights for his country, fights for other humans that deserve the right to their dreams and their freedom, brings us closer to a world where we can all be free, free to dream our dreams.

Our Veterans went into these wars, with their hearts fighting for freedom, fighting to protect the rights of those left at home. I applaud them for what they gave of themselves to do that! I understand that those soldiers, whether they were of the armed forces, or those that fought in the streets, demonstrated, or rallied, that came before me, fought for many freedoms that I enjoy now. My appreciation and heartfelt gratitude goes out to the Crusaders of this world, those who dare to stand up and be proud of their beliefs and their dreams, and those brave enough to fight for others!!
Bonnie

Two simple words, "Thank You". They cover many different emotions from many different people. Unfortunately, Thank you for the safe return of my son, husband, father or friend aren't words that can always be uttered.

I simply say Thank You to all those who served and made it back home. To all those who were left behind or lost their lives, those two words are not now nor will they ever be enough.

Respectfully,
Sharon Wallace

You gave everything you had, including, ultimately, your life.......Rest now......my husband, Ralph E Swift, Sr.

Thank you for the rights I so enjoy today. Thank God for the Soldier, Thank God for freedom. I will remember you always. You will never be forgotten. May you live forever in our hearts
Barbara Culhane

This combat soldiers prayer,
Who has served his time in Hell,
Is may we learn the lessons of war well,
That we not doom future generations,
The same old tales of horror to tell,
To endure what in youth they see mistakenly as glory.
Oh God, do no let our children repeat the same old story.
Make it so that America's babies live to grow old
In this land of the free and the bold.
Help us throw off the shackles of hate that bind
And grow old in a life of a peaceful kind.
Teach us that there is no glory in war,
Nor honor there that brave men should not abhor.
Teach us instead, one for another our brothers to love.
Shower us with thine Celestial message from above,
That we plant seeds of peace evermore
And make war-no-more!
Knights_Lance AKA Gary Jacobson

I never knew what war really was or how it changes lives till you told me about the Gulf ... And slowly I saw what it was still doing to you ... And no one listened. Thank you Scott, for all you gave.
Your C.S.

Saying "Thank You" to all the HEROS who fought for all of us to live in a free country
Michelle Higgins

"To all of you who have defended the freedoms we so often take for granted, forgetting that freedom is not free, God Bless You. The ultimate price has been paid for our freedoms. Just look at the sea of white crosses in the National Cemeteries, the names on The Wall, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the tears in the eyes of a parent, wife, husband, grandparent, child. That is the price that has been paid.

I say to each of you "Welcome Home and Job Well Done."

To those who have yet to come home..."We hear your cries, we feel your pain, we are coming to get you!"

With Undying Gratitude and Love,
Star Kitt

I am a former soldier along with my husband. We were both lucky enough to not have gone to war - but we would have gone. We both love our country and would offer our lives in return in defense of her.

My father was a Marine and served in Korea. He has since passed on - but his valor lives within everyone who knew him.

I have had many relatives serve in all of the branches of the service. I wish them all a very Happy Memorial Day.

May God bless all the veterans, the MIA, the KIA, and the men and women who serve today! You are not forgotten - not any of you!

Peace and Love -
Tam Rodrigues..

I am so proud to see such an awesome site honoring our men and women in the military! Proud mother of a U.S. Marine, sister of past Army and Marine brothers, and countless ancestors proud to serve in our country's services.
Kat - Proud parent of a U.S. Marine

Thanks for preserving our freedom.

Well I can say the Miliary has taught me alot about sacrifices. I served my country for a shade over three years, and would I not trade it for the world. I met a lot of people that I depended on, while serving my time. I might not have crossed the pond, but was ready to go at a moment's notice.

It seems like I'm still in the military when I go to the VA doctors lol. (hurry up and wait) Still yet, I salute all my brothers before me who have come in harm's way at one time or another, yes even the ones who are still serving now and later in years. I think the country owes a debt of gratitude to the Vets, past, present and future.

I heard some sad stories from a fellow Vet today while waiting for my appointment, of how he was treated at the Chillicothe VA hospital. That's another story, and I wont bore you with it.

On closing I will say we are treated as a number and not a human in some places.

Love my brothers in arms.

After 4 Uncle's in World War 11 and 3 Brother's and a Nephew in the Korean and Vietnam War and a Nephew in the Gulf War, I am very proud of my Family and to be an American .

YOU are our heros....and are always remembered...
Darla Bevacqua

The sacrifice of being a soldier is so great, that unless youv'e been one, words cannot express the emotions that each and every serviceman and woman feels almost every day. God, Honor, family.... These are not just words..... they are part of your soul!

To see a nation acknowledge it's past and present veterans makes the sacrifice significant to all veterans, wherever they may be!

TAKE ARMS!

God Bless America
Bill S.

On this Memorial Day 2000, we who live in "the land of the free" must remember and encourage others to remember and honor those who gave ALL. I say "thank you" everyday to every Veteran with whom I have contact for their having served and for the freedom I have as a result of their service. We can never thank them enough...whether collectively or individually!

However, let's remember that Memorial Day is the designated day to remember those who did more than just serve. Memorial Day is to remember those who DIED to give us this freedom we enjoy....along with the MIAs.

Thank the Veterans you encounter in life with respect and never forget their service. But remember the true purpose of Memorial Day.......for no nation in the history of mankind that failed to honor their dead has every survived! REMEMBER THE ONES WHO GAVE ALL ON THIS DAY DESIGNATED FOR THAT PURPOSE.

Always,
Misty

Thank you for keeping this country what it was meant to be, through all your efforts and sacrifices we are free. May you all get the blessings so graciously deserved and more. We owe you so much and hopefully you know the love that is in my heart today for all of you is pure and complete.

Thank you,
Kim

The Iwo Jima Memorial depicts five U.S. Marines, Sgt. Michael Strank, Cpl. Harland H. Block, Pfc. Franklin R. Sousley, Pfc. Rene A. Gagnon, and Pfc. Ira Hayes, and one Navy corpsman, PhM 2/c John H. Bradley raising the national colors on top of volcanic Mount Suribachi. Felix DeWeldon sculpted the Monument using pictures depicting the event and those three participants whom had died in the further fighting for the island. In addition, those three men who had survived modeled for DeWeldon personally, in order to achieve greater accuracy.

Their names liveth for evermore in history. God bless all our veterans living and dead!

To my Dad, the retired Marine, who served in World War II, Korea, and Viet Nam. To My husband, an Army Veteran, who served in Viet Nam. To my oldest Son, the Navy Veteran, that served in Dessert Storm. To my middle son, currently serving in the Marine Corps. To all the men and women, past and present, you have made our country a safer place to live. Thank you..

People Like First Sergeant Gerald Edward Ruppel, USMC E27, retired, My Father-In-Law, have fought to preserve our way of life, our freedom to choose that way of life, and protected us from those who would try to take it away from us. I thank you all for your sacrifices!
Pamela J. Ruppel

God Bless all the Veterans,Then and now ! hugs

When words escape me i turn to the quiet thoughts afforded by my self-imposed silence. It is here, among my feelings, that i begin to comprehend the price paid for my freedom. Nothing any of us could do can repay these debts. Yet for everyone who forgets the sacrifice made a great deal of God's favor is lost. May we who are left strive to further the goals of our fathers and make this "One nation under God" everything she should be.
jamie roberts

Thank you hardly seems to be enough to say to all the men and woman who have gone to war to keep our freedom in the USA. Bless your hearts one and all as you have blessed ours.

Love and warmest regards,
Angel*Rain

I have such respect for our Military men and women......i was an Army brat and had two brothers who served in Nam. I do have one small problem though. I'm not sure when Memorial Day and Veterans Day turned into Vietnam Days. There have been other wars fought, other young men killed, maimed and wounded, other parents burying their sons or daughters way too young or having them missing in action, never to be seen or heard of or from again. No disrespect to the Vietnam Veterans, absolutely none. But we need to remember there were other wars, and other vets who also deserve our honor and our love.

Thank you for allowing me this little speech.
Annette

We do remember.... and most of us do care.

I am proud of attaining Command Sergeant Major (E9) and of my 20+ years with Special Forces and the original Airborne Ranger Infantry Companies of the Korean War

We went as boys, returned as men. Bonded forever by the horrors of needless conflict. Wars, it is said, are the price young men pay for old men's mistakes. My hope and prayer will always be that our/my sons and daughters will live their lives in peace and prosperity because world leaders will finally learn the art of compromise or be prepared to enter the ring alone to settle the difference(s) by the Marquis of Queensbury's rules of boxing.

God Bless America and all who have given their all to defend our country.
CSM Paul Redgate, USASF/Rangers (Ret'd)

To all of our heroes who have given so much of themselves without ever asking why!

You have made the USA the greatest place to live. I thank you for keeping us free and safe. It's because of each and every one of you that we are proud to be Americans.

A "Thank You" will never be enough.

Can you imagine the tears of our friend,

who died before the war's end.

He, who gave his best each day,

and whose foe claimed his life, as prey.

He whose whose war was without acclaim,

fought valiantly, and won, but came home to shame.

His war, the FORGOTTEN WAR, few know it's name.

He came home, picked up the pieces, expecting no fame.

But, many of our bones in the rice patties lie,

It's the Forgotten War, we still can't understand, why?

In memory of our Korean war dead and living, and those, who before us, set the example.

"It is foolish and wrong to mourn their passing. We should rather thank God that such men lived."
--Gen. George S. Patton.

On this day in remembering our fallen comrades, some fathers, sons, brothers and sisters. My heart is heavy, as though it was yesterday.....all their smiles and laughter, and above all the committment to making our lives safe from all that was evil, all that threatened our security, I was so priveliged to be among those, and to know them, even if briefly, it was all their determination, and mine, to see it through. I salute all that made the "Ultimate sacrifice"........ Respectfully submitted.............

Grandpa, you served with honor...

Daddy, you served with honor and carry that badge with you to this day...you are sensitive and yet firm, fun-loving, yet serious...

Cousin, you served and died, while your wife was carrying your child...I am so sorry for that, but you are remembered with nothing but the most honorable memories that we keep you alive with into the future...

Brian, my dearest husband...what can I say? I am so happy that you are alive and yet I think every day what it would have been like to have never met you, or to have been married to you and lost you...Thank you for sharing with me and my family your experiences and your dedication- that could have never come from anyone else, and has made our lives richer because you are who you are...all of you are remembered and revered with fondest of thoughts...I dedicate this writing to all who have died serving and as I do this I pray that they are at the highest form of peace, love and happines...I pray that no more hardship befalls another individual and/or family...I pray that my POW/MIA either comes home or has gone with the Angels to a much better, perfect place...I thank God at this time also for the gifts of beautiful soldiers he has led into my life...

FREEDOM IS NOT FREE: I have tasted war. I have seen good men die, both friend and foe. I have lost buddies to enemy fire. I feel daily the pain of old war wounds. But it was worth it all to keep the world free. When I see what the South Koreans have made of their country since the war and especially when I see the smiles and hear the laughter of the children, I know that the sacrifice for freedom is never too great.
Dick

To my friend Randy who never came home:

Remember when we'd sit in the Ready Room of that big ship before a flight briefing and play chess? Remember when we'd say the worst thing that could ever happen to us was that war? We were wrong. Coming home was! But people care now. Some understand. Know that your name is inscribed proudly on Panel 45 East, Line 14.

In Peace and In Love

SERVED IN WWII AND KOREA. WANT EVERYONE TO KNOW THAT WAR IS HELL.

Until I visited Washington DC and Arlington Cemetery, the true impact of past wars had never fully penetrated my heart. Walking through that area and seeing the graves, monuments and the Wall were one of the most significant events of my adult life. The hushed atmosphere and reverence shown by tourists from all over the world touched me in a way that is impossible to describe. Thankfully we have this beautiful historical site at our Nation's Capitol to preserve and build for all persons that have been affected by all of our Wars. Hopefully there will be no need in the future to add more memorials of wars, we have a significant history to preserve at the present time. A visit to Arlington Cemetery will open your eyes as to how much effort has been put into our freedom.

THANK YOU to every single veteran who has put forth effort to preserve our wonderful country.

To all those who fought and/or died for our country and our freedom,

My gratitude to your heroism is extremely profound. It dumbfounds me to know how many people had to die in conflicts just so I could have the freedom of speech, religion, and lifestyle. Our national debt to you is greater than that which any amount of money could buy. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, Veterans; you truly are heros!

In Memory of my uncle Arthur Dewey Brown who served in WW I .

He served in France and went to war because he believed that what he was doing was important to his family of two sons. Even though he was one of the men that returned, many of his friends did not. It is in his memory and for all those men and women who have served in ALL the wars that I say thank you for keeping our country free.

We love you and miss you.

I want to say "Thank You." Two words being spoken to so many.

I have dedicated my life to Honoring the Men and Women who have served to give us the Freedom we now enjoy. My Brother in law gave His life fighting for Freedom during WWII. He is still buried in Italy. I will not let Him be forgotten. All others who gave their all, I will keep their Memories alive as well.

Those two words now have more meaning then before. "Thank You."
Bill Scott

apparantly, we fought in different wars but the defense of freedom will never know boundries of either time or space. what makes this country great is that we recognise the inherent right of all people to be free and will defend that right in spite of opposition from extreme elements. my son's name is on "The Wall" in Washington. he did not wait to be called to duty for he was aware that although we have certain rights guaranteed under the Constitution, we also have moral obligations to serve our country when called. he died in defense of freedom, and for that, he will always be a hero in God's eyes.

Having 32 years total in the Merchant Marines, US Navy and finally in the US Coast Guard. I can appreciate the sorrow and happiness of all our service people and their families. From World War II to 1975, I am forever greatful to our United States Of America for our freedom when so many other countries don't have this privilege.

1968 DODGE CHARGER R/T (GUNSMOKE) DEDICATED TO MIA/POW/KIA

MAY THEY NEVER BE FORGOTTEN

I remember my Dad was in the US Navy and left home during World War II. He lost many friends and had many injuries from that war.

The Korean War also affected me. I had a dear friend who was my pen pal and for a scrawny girl who was tongue tied around boys, this soldier wrote me beautiful letters of things I could only imagine were made that way for my benefit.

Many of my friends did not come back from the Vietnam war and several family members served and fought in Vietnam and have their own nightmares of that war.

I seldom go to parades. I find it so sad to see the Wall, but my prayers are for those who survived and my thanks go to those who served and those who died.

God Bless You All for our freedom which we can never take for granted. The price has been too high!
Joy - PEPPERMINT PATTY

I come from a strong military family and I am honored by their sacrifices. My father was in the U.S. Airforce from 1957 to 1978. Even tho he was not in Vietnam, he still did his part. The government shipped the bodies through Elmandorph AFB. My father then had to ship the boys home to D.C. for their final resting. The times were tough then, people forgot what it was to be an American. I hope I never loose grasp of the fact that we live in the best place on earth.

God Bless America!!

I do remember those best friends of my youth that did not come back and the ones that are still in pain, physical and mental.

My brother Joe.L.Plazola was in Vietnam in the Silver Wadliegh ship as in the Navy and he still talks about it. He came back deaf on account of bombing and praise GOD HE IS ALIVE BUT many died for our country. He was in the hospital and still cant forget. My brother-in-law Bill Sostak from New Jersey was in Viet Nam in the Navy and they are proud to be Americans and my dad worked in Naval Base Station in Corpus Christi, Texas for many years. I also worked on the base. I love my country too. There is none like my country and its freedom. We have another Bill Stevens in Edwards Air Force Base. He was in Iraq.

There's just no way
to properly say
Thanks to the folks who went away...
Who left their wives
and risked their lives,
so I could have my freedom today.

Thank you,

To all who have had the misfortune to suffer the inhumane indignation of War. I praise you. For your courage to do what is so hard for me to imagine here in my safe world. I don't have to tell you of the horror I see in War, for you lived it. Not one of you woke up one day and said, this is what I want. You were called upon to sacrifice you mind, body and soul in the name of freedom. Freedom. You fought for ours while yours was taken. I will not forget you and the sacrifice you made, or the price you paid for my freedom.

Thank you.

I would give my life for my country because, you gave yours for me.

I wish to share my deepest and most sincere thanks to all veterans; whether you served stateside or overseas, your service to our country is very much appreciated. Without your sacrifice and love of our country, my family and I would not feel safe. I just wish EVERYONE realized what all you do and have to give up to serve in the military! STAY LOYAL, STAY SAFE and most importantly, STAY FREE!

I may only be 20 years old, but I thank everyone of those soldiers who fought for the freedom of every man and woman who are here today. You deserve all the joy and happiness plus more than life has to offer.

And to those who are gone, I know in my heart you are at peace and where you deserve to be. Next to God and your Family.

To all the soldier's who fought in the war THANK YOU SO MUCH! I know a few words are not enough, but that is all I have to give and you deserve more.

May God bless you!!

You are missed

Even though I never knew you, I grieve your death just as if you were my best friend.

There is not a day that passes that I don't mourn your death. It is for this reason that I will never stop trying to impress upon the minds of the American People, the horrible cost of war.

Steve

A Christmas wish from me to you

TO all who fought and all who died.

I have a father who served in the Korean War and to tell the truth he never talks much about it. I'm not sure why(and it's ok). I have a friend who served in Vietnam! He didn't talk much about it either.( and it's ok because he knows why).

This is a picture of my father who fought. He now plays Santa to lots of children. He is holding my granddaughter( 1 month old). May this picture be a reminder, to all who remain and returned, of all the Christmas' missed by fathers and mothers and sisters and brothers.

A SPECIAL Christmas greeting to those whose loved ones are not with them on Christmas (or any other holiday) because they were fighting for our rights to have such holidays.

GOD BLESS you ALL for your sacrifice.
Tugger

Every Veteran is a hero in the truest sense of the word.

Military life is a life of sacrifice. From the boy next door who sits behind a desk his entire enlistment, to the young nursing school graduate who becomes an Army Nurse when her heart is broken by the stories of her fellow American who lays on an operating room table fighting for his life after his body was riddled by shrapnel in some far off land. It is the veteran, not the politician, not the protester, not the draft dodging coward, who has made the sacrifices to keep this country free.

As a D.A.V. Commander I see the price that my people have paid for their service to their country and through them I keep hearing the same phrase echo time and time again, "Freedom is not free", (nor is it cheap).

Stephen D.Saunders

I was only 17 when the War in VietNam ended, I got my Draft card which I still carry today 4H is what it reads inactive draft.

I joined the Michigan Air National Guard when I was 21. I had a good job at Chrysler's, had been there for over 2 years. I needed something else to show I cared, so I joined. Sure it was a Part time job...Annual training is called Summer Camp..DO you know I've been to Kuwait (Operation Southern Watch), Turkey (Operation Northern Watch) all part of keeping the peace in the desert.

Sure there are times we go to "Training Sites" for the Annual Training.. But then there were the times we deployed to Panama Canal Zone to watch the Drug interdiction operations and to Italy to keep the hostile infractions there on their guard.

I have been a Member of the Base Honor Guard to help put Retired, and Current Veterans to their final rest with the dignity they so deserve, and that they rarely are shown.

Since 1978 I have been doing these things... Not for fame or Fortune, no not for these, but because they are Right! I have a personal motto. I try to do the right things for the right reasons. And there is no better way to show these feelings as to lend my time and Best effort to not only do, but to also try to promote that others do these things too.

Yes, I also am a Veteran. Lifetime member in the AMVETS Post 52 New Baltimore, and yes I am in the Honor Guard there also.

These are my beliefs, and I hope I have been able to express to you the earnest Love I have to those who have fought and died, and for those who have fought and remember the reason they were fighting for.

TSGT G.R.Glance

Remembering you all and thanking you for all that you have done for the country.

This message is to all the veterans......I will never forget what you all have sacrificed to let us live in a land of freedom

I WILL NEVER FORGET

God bless you all and may God give you his love forever and ever

Paul aka DImeshort20

I was there during WW II when my uncle sent me military items from wherever he was stationed. I was at Korea every time I went to the movies and watched the news on TV.

In 1953 I was there in the Air Force and retired in 1991 - 38 years of wearing the uniform, 19 active and 19 full time Michigan National Guard. I am no hero, just a guy like so many others that fell in love with the military. I saw a lot and did a lot during my time as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Tech.

I think how hard it must have been for all those who came before me and how much the military has changed from living in fox holes to living in a concrete bunker and pushing a button to launch a warhead. The fox holes are still needed along with the push buttons. We who have lived in the military will never forget our comrades alive or dead and we thank them and there families for all they have given.

Keep the memory alive REMEMBER!

From Russ

There are not enough words in the dictionary to describe what a veteran is. To lay his life on the line to save others, is taking it to the limits. May God Bless those still with us and those that are not.

Thank you for protecting us.

La Verne Heuvel

Down through the passage of time my family has served their country. I salute each and every one of you.

Those who are most special to me - my father "SSG John" Army World War I, my father-in-law "Doc" Navy World War II , my sons, Robert, SSG John, Army Desert Storm, their father Robert who was blind in one eye and could not join the military and my wonderful son-in-law SSG Ronald, Army Desert Storm. A special salute goes out to you because you were mine.

To all the men and women who served their county, I salute you also. Without you we would not have the freedom we so enjoy.

May the Lord bless each and every soldier who has donned a uniform and served our county in war and peacetime.

Signed

The Lady at Pig Hollow

We were so glad our Daddy came home and pray for the ones who didn't.

I lost my husband last month to cancer but he was a veteran of Viet Nam (seven tours) and he was always proud to have served his country.

I take a minute each day to remember those who died on foreign soil and have joined their comrads in heaven and those who came home.

God bless them all.

Our love and thoughts turn to all of the brave men and women who left behind their loved ones and homes to fight for freedom the world over. So many fine people gave their lives to make this world a better place. Let us never forget them or their families. Saying thank you is not enough. Let's do our part to do everything in our power to live honerable lives, to value family life, to respect other people and other religions. We should never take freedom for granted.

To All Who Served ...

I wish to thank you for being there. I cry anytime I hear of another passing, or something that is finally being done to "recognize" you. I was very young when this was taking place, and my parents kept this from me...so now, I wish to learn all I can.

I am now 39..and wanting my teen daughters to know all about the brave women and men that served.

Again, thank you for being here...and may God be with you.

Sincerely,
Karen VanAuken

Thank You for our FREEDOM!

Hi ... My name is Samantha

My uncle Jaime fought in the Viet Nam War. I know he didn't die but he was glad to fight for America. I'm glad he didn't die or I wouldn't be able to hear the stories that he tells me. I love to hear all of them and all about his friends that he made there.

I know that the families of those that did die are sad but I hope they won't be sad forever.

Just know that whoever died, died for a cause!!

United We Stand---Divided We Fall!

Old Glory waves in valor
but it was heart of our fighting man,
preserved by Gods Loving Grace
that kept freedoms of American lands!

Some fell and some were maimed
some unjustly criticized,
causing tears and guilt for a lifetime
with horrors unrealized

3 Cheers for every Soldier
Who ever served This Country Free,
The Backbone of the Good Old USA
who knew definition of Country Loyalty!!!!!!!!

A Combat Soldier's Prayer

This combat soldiers prayer,
Who has served his time in Hell,
Is may we learn the lessons of war well,
That we not doom future generations,
The same old tales of horror to tell,
To endure what in youth they see mistakenly as glory.
Oh God, do not let our children Repeat the same old story.

Make it so that America's babies live to grow old
In this land of the free and the bold.
Help us throw off shackles of hate that bind
And grow old in a life of a peaceful kind.

Teach us that there is no glory in war,
Nor honor there that brave men should not abhor.
Teach us instead, one for another our brothers to love.
Shower us with thine Celestial message from above,
That we plant seeds of peace evermore
And make war-no-more!

But if I should die on some far, far away battlefield
Know I answered the call For a grand principle of freedom to yield.
My fervent prayer is that death
May not have been in vain
Fighting for peace and right for the world to attain.

My brothers, American roses standing by my side
On alien soil dying In the summer of my youthful pride
All the leaves around me falling.
Now I’m lying here still, in sunshine and in shadow,
Longing to hear, "brother next door,"I love you so.
For moldering in the soft ground below,
I feel you living and loving in the world above me
Standing tall because I fought that you might be...

Oh look ye down now,
And tell me you still think of me
Honor my red blood, spilt that others might stand free.
Tell me that I did not give my all for you in vain
That brothers and sisters do not look upon my sacrifice
With hateful,
Or even worse,
Uncaring disdain.

Do not forget me when my valley’s hushed
And white with snow,
Grass growing green in the summer of my meadow.
Help me see the peace I lived and died for grow.
Make my lonely grave richer,
Sweeter be...
Make this truly,
"The land of the free,
And the home of the brave,"
I gave my life to save...
That I might too, lie eternally
Forever free!

The Merchant Marines did their part.

My uncle, Tom Hufford (deceased June 25, 2000), was in the Merchant Marines and served during WW II. A reflective person, he once asked me why there was no single word in the English language for a "good person". He asked if there wasn't a word that meant the opposite of predator. I came up with the word "Amitor" meaning a person of good character knowing right from wrong who does not prey on others. An amitor is represented in the animal world by the giraffe who only fights to defend its young.

We in his family are trying to pass the word on and hope evetually to have it in the dictionary and used by everyone.

GLORY & GLORIOUS!!!!!!

How befitting to remember life given
for all GODS Children & Man
HE- who gave his son for salvation
and HE who gave his for freedom of land

Today the yearly time of memory
when mind toys with yesteryears vision,
GOD who gave His most Precious Love
and soldier who gave his all- by decision

Each year I have to wonder
how many Americans have parallel thoughts,
and find Easter not just a holiday
but a time for priorities yeas and naughts

When sun climbs oer the hill
do we take time to recall,
THE GLORY & GLORIOUS
of which both gave their all!

MY TRIBUTE TO EASTERS HEROES!

I recently got a computer and found out that my graduating partner from high school, Timothy Francis Liese, got killed in Viet Nam about 14 months after we graduated.

He would be 52 like me if he hadn't gotten killed in a land far far away.

Having had a Grandfather in the Army during World War 1 (He was in France when the armistice was signed.) a Father in the Marines during World War 11, and a Viet Nam Era husband who is now in the Missouri Air National, after getting out of the Marines in 1970, I say it's time we all thank the men and women who served in the Armed Forces. Whether it being a popular war or one where heroes came home to no welcome at all.

THANK YOU FOR ALL THE FREEDOMS WE ENJOY TODAY!

For my two husbands - both of whom served in WW II as Merchant Marines.

Thomas P. Hufford, Amitor, graduate of King's Point Merchant Marine Academy 1945 - he hated violence but when his country needed him, he was there!!

Alfred E. Heineken - turned down by all other service due to poor eyesight, but his amateur radio license made him a valued officer in the Merchant Marines.

I am young and still naive in the ways of the world, yet I feel and understand the pain and suffering that these brave soldiers of the Vietnam War have gone through. I also believe that if we as a nation, try to forget the horrors of the war, we will have lost the brave men that served with immense honor during the war, and they will be disgraced and shamed. So I beg of us all, no matter how horrible the war might have seemed to never forget it, even the parts that we don't want to remember.

Bob

We will always keep you in our hearts and in our minds. We love you for your great sacrifices.

I CAN'T EVEN BEGIN TO IMAGINE WHAT PEOPLE OF WAR MUST LIVE WITH. I AM SORRY THERE IS WAR. I WISH THERE WAS NOT WAR. BUT I AM GRATEFUL FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO FOUGHT FOR ME, SO I DO NOT HAVE TO LIVE THAT WAY.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

WITH GREAT LOVE,
PAMELA LYNNE REED - NASHVILLE TN

To each and every service man and woman who has served our country, you are my hero. I am so grateful to you for the love you had for your country. I am grateful for all the soldiers in all the wars that my country has fought. I also believe this country needs to do more for our veterans. We pay our sports hero's and actors fantastic amounts and expect our veterans to get by on a piteful little. I think that is the crying shame this country bears. And we also bear the shame of how this country treated our soldiers from Vietnam. For a great country some of it's people are among the dumbest in the world.

Thank you so much for your service and for the service of your buddies who didn't return. My prayers are with you and for them.

Love from a grateful citizen,
Annice Kelsey

If there was more of the Lord's love being shared with each other, there would be no need for WARS. I pray that someday we will live according to the example Jesus set for us. In the meantime, I pray for those long gone, and for the ones still to make that sacrifice.

God Blessings on all of you.

Thank You.

Eulogy For A Veteran

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you awaken in the mornings hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight,
I am the soft stars that shine at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there, I did not die.

We hold all you veterans in the highest regard. No one can thank you enough for what you have done for keeping us free..

You need to be recognized and appreciated for all you have done and not just on Memorial Day. you are courageous people and may God bless you always.

Chris

I have stood at many War Memorials for Services of Rememberance in England including The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Westminster Abbey and The Cenotaph in Whitehall, as well as local memorials in my hometown, where i happened to live at that time. Now i live in the States. My wife and i recently visited Washington and we went to the Vietnam Wall. It was a warm sunny day , but as we approached the wall, the temperature seemed to drop alarmingly. One could not help but feel the reverence of the place, the messages and gifts left by friends and families, the books to help find names on the wall.

I was appalled by the amount of school kids who seemed to have no idea of the meaning of such a place, and who were running and shouting , and even one who climbed on the Wall, and sulked when told to get off by ordinary people. I was appalled by the lack of respect shown by the Teachers in allowing this behaviour.

I only hope that none of us have recourse in the future to visit such a Memorial to find family or friends names for ourselves, or see such disrespect by others.

THE GREATEST GIFT THAT ONE CAN GIVE
IS ONES LIFE, SO OTHERS CAN LIVE.

In Memory of Maj. San D. Francisco

I will remember you and the great times we had during Pilot Training and the two loving sisters you left behind. I hope our government will find your remains so they can be returned to the family so that they might have closure. You did well protecting us during those times.

With fond memories,
Capt.(Ret.) George M. Henry, Jr.

In memory of Staff Sergeant Everett Levering - B Company, 1st Battalion, 2nd Infantry, 1st Infantry Division.

Sgt Levering gave his life coming to the releif of the men in his platoon, of which I was one, having only been in country about 2 months. Sgt. Levering took on a machine gun emplacement that was giving us a lot of pain and grief. In the ensuing action Sgt. Levering was killed, I beleive he was from Minnesota. Because of him, I and several others are here today instead of on the Wall where he is.

Thank you
Name with-held

"These heroes are dead. They died for liberty-they died for us. They are at rest.

They sleep in the land they made free, under the flag they rendered stainless, under the solemn pines, the sad hemlocks, the tearful willows, the embracing vines. They sleep beneath the shadow of the clouds, careless alike of sunshine or storm, each in the windowless palace of rest.

Earth may run red with other wars-they are at peace. In the midst of the battles, in the roar of conflicts, they found the serenity of death."

RIP

Donna

It is not just enough to thank the men and women both living and dead who fought for their country to keep it free. It's not enough to just remember them and hopefully celebrate their lives. The real tribute to these brave people would be for those who are alive today to work toward peace for the whole world.

Peace and love,
Thea

I've been to the wall, and I've touched the names. I thank God everyday for those who were willing to risk their lives for our freedom.

Your family, friends, and country are very proud of you and all the other heroes, living or deceased, who fought for this great country and our precious freedom. I will never forget you or the time we shared together, but I have our memories that I cherish and still miss you today. There was an Honor Guard of Veteran's for my daddy from the VFW he belonged too. My prayer's were answered. He was never alone after he came home because of those who stood shifts until his burial. He was buried with full Military Services.

This is bringing back the tears but I know without my daddy and so many others who make up our path in history, we would not be free today. Oh how I miss my Daddy but I know he now watches over me.

May God Bless All....And God Bless America

Robert T Agee

There has always been a soldier in our family dating back to the Revolutionary War, so respect for those in our military is a deep thread that ties us together. Once a month, my mother would save her household pennies and we would make up packages to send to the local Air Force base to forward to our soldiers in Viet Nam. I watched as my mother tucked a note of encouragement into each one, thanking them for their sacrifices and letting them know that they were in our prayers and loved.

I remember being in high school during that time and worrying about my friends that were called to duty and challenged her (being a teenager) as to how she could endorse this war. She looked at me and said she didn't endorse the war, but the men and women that were called to serve and protect were doing so out of a sense of love and duty. She explained that they deserved our love and support as individuals that were making incredible personal sacrifices out of a sense of duty to the people of our country even if they didn't agree with a decision the government had made. And she would cry silent tears when we watched the protest marches on television and how people were treating our returning soldiers.

I learned allot about individual respect, gratitude and principles in the face of controversy from my mother - I still get goosebumps when the Star Spangled Banner is played and misty-eyed when towns display hundreds of flags for celebrations.

My thanks to all that have served in our military and want these men and women to know that there are still those of us that support them regardless of the decisions others might make.

Kate Young

It is with a humble heart that I wish to thank all of our men and women that have fought so valiantly throughout all of the wars to guarantee our continued freedom. We asked so much of you and you came thru each and everytime.

My father was a WWII vet, he was in the second wave at Normandy and also fought at the Battle of the Bulge. He was one of 9 brothers, all of whom fought in WWII either in Europe or the South Pacific. My Brother fought in Viet Nam as a medic. I cannot fathom the sacrifices these young men made.

In the same way, I wish to pay tribute to the mothers, wives, sisters that remained behind and kept the country going. My Grandmother, giving 9 sons to go overseas, My mother who stayed behind as her brand new husband left, and then suffered having her son also serve.

There are so many heros that our Flag represents. Please pay tribute to this flag that so many have fought and died for. Find a veteran today! and tell them how much you appreciate all they did!

To all our Veterans Thank You. I will be eternally grateful for what you and your fellow servicemen and women have done. May you be blessed.

This is a quote from our first President, George Washington:

"The willingness with which our young people are likely to serve in any war, no matter how justified, shall be directly proportional as to how they perceive the veterans of earlier wars were Treated and Appreciated by their Nation".

It would do all Americans justice if our current and future elected officials in Washington remember those profound words and always remember the sacrifices of the millions of veterans who served with honor and distinction.

Paul E. Pritchett

Wednesday July 4th, 2001 as we celebrate the 225th birthday of our great nation we still voice Abraham Lincoln's philosophy: "A government of the people, by the people, for the people".

Our flag does not fly over our nation's capitol because some president decreed it. Our flag does not fly here in Oklahoma because some politician legislated it or some judge dictated it! Our flag flies today in this free country because brave American men and women have fought and died for our flag and the freedom it represents.

Let us cherish the blessings of liberty that was secured for us by those who served in the armed forces of the United States of America.

While history may overlook many of the brave deeds of our gallant men and women, their memory will ever live in the hearts and minds of freedom loving people of this great nation. The heart of every true American, must needs throb with wondrous pride as we honor our immortal American Heros. For those who died in the service and others who are now gone, the honor and glory is theirs.

MAY THEIR GLORY FOREVER RING.

More than one million Americans have died on battlefields or were lost at sea, they were defending the freedom our flag represents, they have laid a costly sacrifice upon the altar of Freedom. May their memory tread softly upon our hearts with ease and march on and on! No we do not worship our flag! No way! Only to God do we kneel, yet our Flag is the sacred emblem of our country. It symbolizes our birthright, our heritage of liberty purchased with blood and sorrow. Our Flag is our title deed of freedom, which is ours to enjoy and hold in trust. Our Flag was created in freedom. It made its first appearance in a battle for human liberty. Today fifty stars signal from the union of our flag, one for each of the fifty sovereign states in the greatest constitutional republic the world has ever known. When we see our flag wave each day, not just Independence Day, let us remember the price that was paid for our flag to fly in this free country!

As a wife of a US Veteran, I wish to extend My deepest appreciation to all the many men and women who have served our country to keep the belief of freedom alive. Our family sends our support to all the men and women who are now serving our country, and we will pray that all of our Armed Forces will be given the infinite wisdom to go forth and be very proud to protect our homeland.

God Bless The USA.

May the free world unite to rid this world of all terrorism, and for all the people who have to fight to achieve this, may their Gods go with them

I have never been so proud to be an American than I am now. It is amazing how everyone is joining together as a nation and how many other countries are joining the United States at our time of need. My prayers are being said for everyone that lost a family member or friend in this terrible attack on the USA. I believe our President Bush is doing everything possible and I have all of the confidence in the world in him. I believe this will be taken care of and with his leadership this terrible group of people will be taken out. We are united as one.

"May we go forward with our righteous convictions. May we walk in truth and in faith and in love. For if we will do so, we will be upheld and strengthened by the Lord: 'Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid' (John 14:27).

God Bless America,

At a time in my life when I thought it important to hunt for pop bottles and play with Hot Wheels you were answering America's call to duty as a Combat Tracker in Viet Nam.

Thank you cousin Don

For all you men and women who came before me and made sure that my freedom would be guaranteed I thank you. For all you who fought scared, tired, and determined to keep the US and what it stands for alive and free, I salute you.

Afterall, if you brave souls did not answer your call, we, the United States would not be here at ALL!!!

I am eternally grateful to all of you. My gratitude and pride go with your families, and so does my love and respect....

THANK YOU

I would like to honor my father who passed away April 21, 1998. Joseph B. White, Sr., SFC US Army Retired, served his country for 23 years in active duty. He served in World War II, Korea and in Vietnam. After retiring in 1969, he organized an Amvets Post in Dickson, Tn. He served the organization in every capacity locally and statewide becoming state commander. My father was a gentleman and a soldier. He is sadly missed by wife, children, grandchildren, friends and especially veterans.

I would also honor my husband, who served in Vietnam in 1967-1968. He is currently in the Tennessee National Guard, and has been activated since September 13, 2001.

Thank you Dad, husband and all Military personnel.

God Bless you.

We owe so much to those who died. But, the ones who survived and now have those awful memories and images of fallen buddies...need more love. The new proud and eager 'veterans-in the making' don't know the peril they face.

I have prayed there will never be the need of another wall. Now, that is inevitably a future project.

PLEASE GOD, LET THERE BE NO MORE WALLS!!!
